Logging
The company owns more than 1000 ha forest land, as well as has signed a logging agreement with VAS "Latvijas Valsts Meži" until the year 2094 about forest exploitation with the total area of 40000 ha. Within the framework of long term agreement, in the state forests ~ 120 000 m3 round timber are being worked out each year, including 90 000 m3 in the main exploitation and 30 000 m3 thinning. The rest of the necessary amount in the forest exploitation is acquired in auctions, as well as by purchasing felling areas and estates from the private owners in the whole territory of Latvia.
The company is carrying out a full forest management cycle in its estates, as well as providing services for individuals and legal entities. Each year the soil is prepared for an artificial regeneration of forest, establishing and managing forest plantations, cutting to take care of the structure, as well as doing other necessary works for the renewing and maintaining of the forest in order to increase its value in the future.
Logging process is carried out all the year round. The company has 5 tractors at its disposal (Timberjack, John Deere), 5 automobiles (Logging trucks) (Scania) with hydro manipulators, 2 harvesters (Timberjack, John Deere), as well other technical equipment that ensures production process. In the felling area as far as 14 different assortments are prepared, the most important - pulpwood, saw log, plywood and wood.
The joint stock company "Saldus mežrūpniecība" ranks among the 5 biggest companies in logging amount. Practically, the chance for development in the field of resource amount is exhausted in Latvia; therefore, since 2003 the company is looking for the possibility to work outside the territory of Latvia. To wit, in the beginning of 2006, in the region of Pskow, Russian federation, an enterprise OOO„Салдус" was established and registered. It is engaged with purchasing round timber products and delivering them to the sawmills of "Saldus mežrūpniecība" in Latvia and purchasing of felling areas in the public sales, and organizing the elaboration of it.
